<image:caption>Though almost a hundred-forty years long-dead, Charles Darwin’s raw and unedited voice, as it came to us through his letters, made the imminent naturatlist feel as alive as anyone participating in recent productions—in particular Evolution: The Letters of Charles Darwin. In fact it feels as appropriate to call him a collaborator as it does to call him a muse. Widely considered one of the most important scientists in human history, Darwin is best known for the theory “Natural Selection,” a foundation of modern biology which explains how organisms evolve into different species. His lengthy scientific career effectively began while serving as “onboard naturalist” for the H.M.S. Beagle during a five-year journey around the world beginning in 1831. His time aboard the Beagle provided lifelong inspiration for his many scientific theories. In addition to “natural selection,” he made many still-relevant contributions to our understanding of numerous topics in science including: geology, botany, zoology, coral reefs, earth worms, barnacles, and facial expressions.</image:caption>

Burkhardt had a lengthy career as an academic, serving as the head of the American Counsel of Learned Societies, the President of Bennington College (Posin’s alma mater), the Chairman of the Board of Higher Education for the City of New York. He also played a role in the formation of the National Endowment for the Humanities. In 1974 he began collecting and editing the letters of Charles Darwin. His books, published by Cambridge University Press, are hailed for their indelible contributions to our current understanding of the imminent naturalist—both as a man and theorist—and were the primary source for Posin’s forthcoming production Evolution: The Letters of Charles Darwin.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Kathryn is one of those rare phenomenon who happens to be like an eruption; her work shakes the entire stage and everything starts to thunder from the collected energy. with its dramatic flowing music of the american compser joan tower the woman appears in all of her ages and seasons - a performance that literally arouses purified tears. is the dance all of ballet has been looking for; a multicultural romp loaded with street smarts, strong ballet technique and structural sense.... - Patricia Nicolova, Jeneta Dnes(Woman Today)</image:caption>

      <image:title>Works - Bulgarian National Ballet, Scheherazade</image:title>
<image:caption>Scheherazade is a multi-layered performance, opulent, beautiful, dynamic, highly theatrical and extremely brave in choreographic solutions, with a global message. The music of Rimsky-Korsakov has born a bright provocation which Posin instills with the "female force to conquer and propitiate" the erupted demons from Pandora's box. Her fantastic lunar characters, Chinese princesses, sailors, Viziers, sheiks, magical birds and magical spirits dance magically as a counterpoint to the Arab spring, escalating ethnic tensions in the world and uncontrolled terrorism. Her characters fly across the stage, jumping from all directions, they chase and fight, but in the name of love that gathers, not divides.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Works - Later That Day</image:title>
<image:caption>Kathryn Posin's "Later That Day" is a group piece strongly colored by her use of music of the same title, written by Philip Glass for the opera he created with Robert Wilson, "Einstein on the Beach." .... The choreography echoes his repetitions, choral richness, changes in rhythm, and deceptive simplicity. To say she is giving us a love story is, in fact, more of a hypothesis than a conclusion. Yet Miss Posin has always been tuned into street life around her, and the human dimension among these formalist trappings give the piece its own voice .... A great demonstration of versatility from the Ailey dancers."</image:caption>

      <image:title>Works - Bach's Lunch</image:title>
<image:caption>"Posin's "Bach's Lunch" might be the most outrageous work this company has ever mounted. It is a crazy salad of arch satire, alienation, low comedy, terror, virtuosity, love, and deconstructionist thory.... It begins as a farcical battle between a very young dancer and an imperious choreographer, played out to Leopold Stokowski's grandiose orchestration of Bach's "Toccata and Fugue in D Minor" .... "It's broad comedy - until the choreographer flings the young dancer to the stage. Suddenly the mood darkens. The corps vanishes. The music switches to an eerie text piece from Laurie anderson's "Red". Posin's combination of menace and low comedy was at once gripping and hilarious. The piece was a hit with an audience of 1000 and the subject of animated lobby talk." - Tom Strini, Milwaukee Journal/Sentinel</image:caption>

      <image:title>Works - Bridge of Song</image:title>
<image:caption>"Bridge of Song".... is the dance all of ballet has been looking for; a multicultural romp loaded with street smarts, strong ballet technique and structural sense.... Everything, no matter how diverse, springs from deep within the musical impulse. That gives this dance legitimacy. This is not a New York choreographer pillaging innocent cultures; it is ballet embracing the wider world of dance with an open-hearted joy that cannot and should not be resisted." - Tom Strini, Milwaukee Journal/Sentinel</image:caption>

      <image:title>Works - Poem Without a Hero</image:title>
<image:caption>"The brittle peal and cascading play of Russian church bells provided a grounding motif for Kathryn Posin's "Poem Without a Hero", a beautifully realized ensemble ballet with powerful physical and spiritual resonance.... The dancers in this modern work, with women on point, executed with conviction and straightforwardness a kind of body calligraphy that transformed movement sequences into a virtual language. Dancers seemed to portray humanity in general even as they achieved personal epiphanies .... It's one thing to go to a ballet and be told what you're going to see, and another thing to experience a gut feeling of authenticity. When the two come close together, as in "Poem Without a Hero", you've come across something both absorbing and important." - Kathy Valin, City Beat, Cincinnati</image:caption>

The emotion is powerful; this is not mere eye candy ......The beautiful ending brings not only a welcome message, but an elegant conclusion. The larger story ends where it began, but everyone returns home changed." - Tom Strini, MilwaukeeJournal/Sentinel " ...unabashed spectacle with a strong dance underpinning ......The muscle of this "Scheherazade" is undeniable." - Andrew Adler, Louisville Courier-Journal</image:caption>

      <image:title>Past Performaces - Charles Darwin</image:title>
